A major day for moving in
LAWRENCE -- A steady stream of 880 freshmen and their parents pulled into Rider University yesterday morning for Move-In Day in cars stuffed to the hilt with refrigerators, fans, rugs, microwaves and cases of bottled water. Despite the bulky luggage, unloading the car was a largely hands-off experience. More than 200 upperclassmen in cranberry and white T-shirts carried luggage to the rooms for them. Matt Bauer, co-captain of the men's swimming and diving teams, was among those helping. He said Move-In Day is an annual swim team bonding experience and a good workout. "At the end of the day, you can't feel your legs," he said. Bauer, a senior advertising major, said it can be nerve-racking moving the more expensive items.
