ELL students finish program

DALLASTOWN SCHOOLS — The Dallastown Area School District recently finished its summer program for English Language Learner students and their parents.

Instructional Program Specialist Alma Row said 13 students, from first grade through high school, and two parents participated in the week-long program.

The program helps the students and their parents to connect with the community and increase communication skills in English, Row said.

The group took a virtual road trip through the United States to have a greater understanding of the country, she said.

The trip started in York County and went to Philadelphia, St. Louis, San Francisco, New Orleans and Washington, D.C. Google Earth, literature, games and cooking were incorporated in the activities.

"It was tons of fun," Row said.

Dunkin’ Donuts Goes Trans-Fat Free

Dunkin' Donuts announced it will be pretty much trans-fat free by mid October.

The company developed alternative cooking oil, and reformulated more than 50 menu items including doughnuts.

But the ``zero grams trans fat' label won't mean there is literally no trans fat in their products. Federal regulations state food labels can say ``zero grams trans fat' if there's less than a half gram per serving.

Rookie no-hitter stuns crowds at Fenway

Clay Buchholz threw a no-hitter in his second major league start, just hours after being called up by the Boston Red Sox.

The lanky Texan baffled Baltimore in a 10-0 win. He struck out nine, walked three and hit one batter before the 371st straight sellout crowd at Fenway Park. The crowd stood through the entire ninth inning, cheering every pitch. Buchholz struck out Nick Markakis looking for the final out.

Buchholz turned 23 on August 14. He pitched the third no-hitter of the season, joining Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox and Justin Verlander of Detroit.

Buchholz is the 17th rookie to throw a no-hitter. The last one to do it was Florida's Anibal Sanchez against Arizona last September 6.

The right-hander is the 18th Boston pitcher to throw a complete-game no-hitter.
